There once was an ‘opihi,
His name was Kai
He was a happy ‘opihi,
And I’ll tell you why...
His book was given out you see,
To each family at Tūtū and Me.
Now, Kai is at home with them each night;
And as his story is read, it helps them cling tight…
Beginning late January, Jan Dill and Gail Omoto have been visiting each Tūtū and Me site statewide to give our participants a copy of the book, Kai the ‘Opihi Gets the Point. During these visits, Jan talks about the background of the story and the purpose for writing it; and Gail reads the story and briefly shares a curriculum guide containing ideas on story-related activities that caregivers can do at home to lay a good educational foundation for their keiki. So far, over 300 books have been distributed to our families. By the end of April, all of our Tūtū and Me families statewide will have a book of their own. The distributions have gone extremely well thanks to our wonderful staff. It has been a blessing to see our program in action and to talk story with our participants. We are very grateful for this opportunity to share this book with our families. Mahalo ke Akua.
